Battery, Starter & Alternator

What to expect

A rapid clicking when you turn the key usually means a battery without enough current to spin the starter. A single loud click more often points at the starter itself. If the car runs but the battery keeps dying, the alternator or a parasitic drain is the more likely cause. These are three different repairs, so we test rather than guess.

Georgia heat kills batteries, not cold

Winter is when a weak battery finally fails, but summer heat is what killed it. Sustained high under-bonnet temperatures accelerate the internal corrosion that ends a battery's life. Most batteries here last somewhere between three and five years.

How we tell battery from starter from alternator

We load test the battery, measure charging output at the alternator, and check for voltage drop in the starter circuit. Each test isolates a different component. That is a short job and it stops you buying a battery when the alternator was the problem.

Common questions

My battery keeps dying overnight.

That is usually a parasitic drain — something staying awake after the car is locked. It takes a bit of testing to trace, but it is findable, and replacing the battery again will not fix it.
