EV & Hybrid Service

What to expect

Hybrids and EVs still need brakes, tyres, suspension, cabin filters, coolant and a healthy 12-volt battery — and the 12-volt is the single most common reason an EV will not wake up. What they do not need is oil changes or exhaust work.

What is different

Regenerative braking means friction brakes are used less, so pads often last far longer — but the calipers can seize from disuse, and rotor corrosion becomes the failure mode instead of wear. Tyres wear faster because the vehicles are heavier and have instant torque. Battery thermal management adds a cooling system that needs attention.

The 12-volt battery

Almost every EV and hybrid still has a conventional 12-volt battery running the computers and contactors. When it dies the car will not start no matter how full the traction battery is. It is an ordinary battery job with an unusual amount of panic attached.

What we do and don’t do

High-voltage battery and drive unit service needs specific training and equipment. Call the shop before booking and we will tell you plainly whether we can do your job in-house or which specialist we would send you to.

Common questions

Do hybrids need oil changes?

Yes — a hybrid still has a petrol engine. A fully electric vehicle does not.
