Tune-Up Service

What to expect

On a modern engine a tune-up mostly means spark plugs, ignition coils if they are failing, and air and fuel filters. There are no points to set and no carburettor to adjust. Most vehicles want plugs somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles depending on plug type.

What a tune-up is not

It is not a cure for a specific fault. If you have a misfire, a rough idle, or a check engine light, that needs diagnosis — a tune-up performed hopefully at a car with a real fault is money spent without a plan.

When it genuinely helps

Worn plugs cause misfires under load, poor fuel economy, and hard starting. If you are at or past the interval and noticing any of those, replacing them is straightforward maintenance with a real payoff.

Common questions

How often do spark plugs need changing?

Check your manual. Copper plugs are often 30,000 miles; iridium and platinum are frequently 100,000. Using the wrong type shortens the interval dramatically.
