The short version
What is actually different about servicing a Ford
EcoBoost changed what Ford ownership looks like. The engines are genuinely good and genuinely more demanding than the naturally aspirated V8s they replaced: they care about oil quality, they care about coolant, and on some versions the water pump lives inside the engine and driven by the timing chain, which means a failing pump puts coolant where oil should be. That one is worth knowing about before it happens rather than after.
On the older three-valve V8s the story is spark plugs and cam phasers. The plugs are known for seizing and breaking on removal, which is a job that wants patience and the right tools rather than force. The phasers announce themselves as a rattle on cold start.
And on the small EcoBoost four-cylinders there is a documented coolant intrusion issue where coolant finds its way into a cylinder. A car that is quietly using coolant with no visible leak is a car we want to look at, not top up.
Pattern recognition
What we see most on Fords
These are the specific things worth knowing about your make — not a generic checklist. If none of them describe your car, we will tell you that too.
Internal water pump on the 3.5 EcoBoost
Driven off the timing chain and located inside the front cover, so a failure dumps coolant into the oil rather than onto the driveway. Low coolant with no visible leak on one of these is not a wait-and-see.
3-valve V8 spark plugs and cam phasers
Plugs that seize and shear on removal, and phasers that rattle on cold start. Both are routine for a shop that has done them and expensive for one that has not.
Coolant intrusion on small EcoBoost engines
Coolant disappearing with nothing on the ground, sometimes with a misfire. Worth diagnosing properly and early.
PowerShift dual-clutch transmission
On the Focus and Fiesta of that era, shuddering and hesitation from a standstill. There is real history here including extended warranty coverage, and it is worth checking what your specific car is eligible for.
How a visit works
Four steps, and you approve the third one
1. Tell us the symptom
Call, book online, or text us a photo of the dashboard. A real person answers during shop hours.
2. We find the cause
We diagnose the fault rather than reading a code and replacing the part it names.
3. You see it first
Photos and measurements of the actual problem, texted to you, with a price. Nothing proceeds until you say so.
4. We do the approved work
Only what you approved, torqued to specification, road tested, and covered by our written warranty.

What we do most on a Ford
No obligation
Not sure whether it is urgent? Send us a photo.
Snap a picture of the dashboard light, the leak, or the worn part and text it to us. A real person will text you back during shop hours — no phone call, no appointment, and we will tell you if it can wait.
Ford questions
Common questions from Ford owners
My coolant keeps going down but there is no leak on the ground. What is that?
On an EcoBoost that is a symptom we take seriously, because the water pump on some of these is internal and a failure sends coolant into the oil. Bring it in before you keep topping it up — this is one of the few things where waiting genuinely costs more.
Is EcoBoost less reliable than the old V8?
It is less forgiving, which is not quite the same thing. It makes more power from less engine, and it depends on oil and coolant being in good condition to do it. Maintained properly they last well. Maintained casually they do not.
Are the spark plugs on my F-150 really a big job?
On the three-valve 5.4 they can be, because the plug design is prone to seizing and breaking off in the head. Done carefully with the right extraction approach it is routine. Done in a hurry it becomes a much larger job, which is why we quote it honestly.
Do you work on Super Duty trucks and diesels?
Call us with the year and engine. We handle a great deal of Ford truck work; some heavy diesel repairs are outside what we take on, and we would rather say so before you drive over.
