The short version

What is actually different about servicing a Jeep

Death wobble is the Jeep symptom everyone has heard of and almost nobody diagnoses correctly. It is a violent front-end shake after hitting a bump at speed, and it is almost never the steering damper that people replace to fix it. It is worn components in the steering and suspension — track bar, control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends — that allow the front axle to oscillate. Fitting a heavier damper masks it. Finding the worn joint fixes it.

The rest of the Jeep list is shared with Dodge: the 3.6-litre Pentastar with its plastic oil filter housing that warps and leaks, the 5.7 Hemi with its lifters, and the integrated power module that generates a wide range of electrical symptoms from one root cause.

The Grand Cherokee with air suspension deserves a mention of its own — the compressor and the air struts are wear items, and the car usually tells you by sitting unevenly before it tells you with a message.

Pattern recognition

What we see most on Jeeps

These are the specific things worth knowing about your make — not a generic checklist. If none of them describe your car, we will tell you that too.

Death wobble

A violent front-end oscillation after a bump. The cause is play in the steering and suspension, not a weak damper. We inspect the whole front end and show you which joint is moving.

Pentastar oil filter housing

Plastic housing warps and leaks oil down the front of the engine. An aluminium replacement solves it permanently and we prefer to fit one.

Grand Cherokee air suspension

Compressor and strut wear. The car settles unevenly first and complains later.

Lift kits and alignment

A lifted Jeep has different alignment geometry and different tyre wear. If yours is lifted, tell us — the specification we align it to should not be the stock one.

How a visit works

Four steps, and you approve the third one

1. Tell us the symptom

Call, book online, or text us a photo of the dashboard. A real person answers during shop hours.

2. We find the cause

We diagnose the fault rather than reading a code and replacing the part it names.

3. You see it first

Photos and measurements of the actual problem, texted to you, with a price. Nothing proceeds until you say so.

4. We do the approved work

Only what you approved, torqued to specification, road tested, and covered by our written warranty.

No obligation

Not sure whether it is urgent? Send us a photo.

Snap a picture of the dashboard light, the leak, or the worn part and text it to us. A real person will text you back during shop hours — no phone call, no appointment, and we will tell you if it can wait.

Jeep questions

Common questions from Jeep owners

Will a new steering damper fix my death wobble?

Almost never, and we will not sell you one as a fix. A stiffer damper hides the symptom while the worn joint that causes it keeps wearing. The correct approach is inspecting the front end under load and finding the actual play — and we will show you it moving.

Is a lifted Jeep harder to service?

Not harder, but different. Alignment specifications change, driveline angles change and tyre wear patterns change. Tell us about the lift when you book and we will set it up correctly rather than to the factory numbers.

Why is there oil all over the front of my engine?

On a Pentastar V6 that is very often the plastic oil filter housing, which warps with heat and leaks from the top down, making it look like it comes from everywhere. The aluminium replacement is the permanent fix.

Do you service Jeeps that actually go off-road?

Yes, and it changes the inspection. Off-road use is severe service — differential fluid, transfer case fluid and driveline wear all need looking at more often. Tell us how you use it and we will schedule accordingly.
