The short version

What is actually different about servicing a Dodge

The two engines you will find in most Dodges on the road here are the 5.7-litre Hemi and the 3.6-litre Pentastar, and each has one signature failure worth knowing about. On the Hemi it is the lifters and the camshaft, driven partly by the cylinder deactivation system, and it announces itself as a tick that grows into a misfire. On the Pentastar it is the cylinder head on the earliest years, and on all years the plastic oil filter housing, which warps and leaks oil down the front of the engine.

The other Dodge signature is electrical. The integrated power module that handles fuses and relays is a known source of faults that look like everything else — a fuel pump that will not prime, wipers that run on their own, a no-crank that comes and goes. Chasing those symptoms individually is how people spend a great deal of money without fixing anything.

We test the circuit rather than swapping the part. That takes longer at the diagnosis stage and it is cheaper by the end.

Pattern recognition

What we see most on Dodges

These are the specific things worth knowing about your make — not a generic checklist. If none of them describe your car, we will tell you that too.

Hemi lifter and camshaft wear

A tick that changes with load, often on a deactivated cylinder, sometimes with a misfire code. Early is a lifter job. Late is a camshaft.

Pentastar oil filter housing

The plastic housing warps and leaks oil, and because it sits high on the engine the oil runs down and looks like it is coming from everywhere. Aluminium replacements are available and we prefer them.

Integrated power module faults

Intermittent no-start, phantom wiper operation, fuel pump that will not prime. It is a well-known fault source and a well-known cause of unnecessary parts replacement.

Eight-speed automatic fluid

Excellent gearbox, real fluid interval, very specific fluid requirement. Getting the specification wrong here causes shift quality problems quickly.

How a visit works

Four steps, and you approve the third one

1. Tell us the symptom

Call, book online, or text us a photo of the dashboard. A real person answers during shop hours.

2. We find the cause

We diagnose the fault rather than reading a code and replacing the part it names.

3. You see it first

Photos and measurements of the actual problem, texted to you, with a price. Nothing proceeds until you say so.

4. We do the approved work

Only what you approved, torqued to specification, road tested, and covered by our written warranty.

No obligation

Not sure whether it is urgent? Send us a photo.

Snap a picture of the dashboard light, the leak, or the worn part and text it to us. A real person will text you back during shop hours — no phone call, no appointment, and we will tell you if it can wait.

Dodge questions

Common questions from Dodge owners

What is the ticking noise from my Hemi?

It is worth distinguishing between an exhaust manifold bolt tick, which is common and mostly cosmetic, and a lifter tick, which is not. They sound different and behave differently under load. We will tell you which one you have before you spend anything.

Everything electrical on my Dodge is acting strangely at once. What causes that?

One shared fault upstream, usually. A failing power module, a bad ground or a dying battery can generate symptoms across systems that appear unrelated. We start by testing the supply and grounds rather than by replacing modules.

Does cylinder deactivation cause the lifter failures?

It contributes. The deactivating lifters live a harder life, and stretched oil changes make it considerably worse. Frequent oil changes with the correct specification are the best defence available to an owner.

Can you do a diagnosis before I commit to a repair?

That is how we work on everything. You get the diagnosis, photographs of what we found and a price before any repair begins, and you decide from there.
